tameness「飼い慣らされている性質、面白味がなく洗練されていないという特質、おとなしいこと、従順なこと、人慣れしていること」。 ネアンデルタール人が絶滅した理由の一つの仮説として、ホモ・サピエンスがオオカミを手なづけて、一緒に狩りをすることで食料調達が非常に上手くいくようになったと。 それがネアンデルタール人を徐々に追い詰めたという説があるようで、ここではその事を言っているようです。 耳は垂れ、尻尾が曲がり、被毛はまだらぶち、これが従順に進化した動物に共通の変化というならば、そういうペットは一緒に暮らしやすい性質ということなんですかね。
