先日から「Why fabric fraud is so easy to hide -「布地の偽装はバレにくい」を読んでいます。

For the last few garments the company has yet to fully trace, conventional cotton is the sticking point.
そしてまだ完全にトレース出来ていない最後の数着は従来のコットン製品で、これがネックだ。

sticking point「前進・同意などの限界点、行き詰まりになる点」。

Cotton harvested from multiple farms is mixed and sold together, making it very difficult to trace back to a specific farm.
複数の農場から収穫された綿花が混在して販売されており、それを特定するのは非常に困難なのだ。

At the moment, Asket relies on Gots certification to trace its organic cotton
現在、アスケット社はGots認証に基づいてオーガニックコットンのトレースを行っており、

- and has plans to switch to organic cotton across its whole range – but doesn’t know exactly which farms it has come from.
ゆくゆくは全商品をオーガニックコットンに切り替える予定だが、生産農場を正確には把握出来ていない。

“We have the raw cotton that’s been ginned [the cotton fibres separated from the seed] that arrives at our spinning mill,” says Bringéus.
「紡績工場に届くのは、ジンニング（綿花の繊維を種子から分離すること）された原綿です」とブリンゲウス氏。

“From that point on, we are 100% confident in our traceability.”
「ここから先は、我々のトレーサビリティに100％の自信を持っています。」

Adding a physical tracer to the mix that could track that raw cotton back to its origin, on top of the existing Gots certification, would provide extra peace of mind.
Gotsの認証に加え、原綿の産地まで追跡できる物理的なトレーサーを追加出来れば、さらに安心感を抱けるだろう。

“That would still give us some confidence that we don’t have today,” he says.
「そうなれば、今の我々にはない自信を更に持てるでしょう」と同氏。

かなり細かく、綿繊維の源流の源流まで遡ろうという試みのようですね。

そこまでしなくても良いような気もしましたが、逆にここまでしっかりやらないと、いくらでも偽装の魔の手が忍び込むスキが出来てしまうということでしょうか。

消費者としてはメーカーを信頼して品物を選ぶわけですから、この流れは大いに応援したいものです。
