先日から「Why olive oil prices are soaring and what to do about it -「オリーブオイル価格高騰の理由と対策」を読んでいます。

Fellow Italian Carina La Delfa, a pastry chef who recently opened Lumos bakery in Melbourne,

admits that in Australia, paying a premium for high-quality olive oil is not unusual, and she looks to her nonna for inspiration.
オーストラリアでは高品質のオリーブオイルに割増価格を払うことは珍しくなく、インスピレーションを得るために自分の祖母を参考にしているという。

“A great way to make your olive oil last longer is to use it as a garnish, such as in dressings and on top of finished pasta dishes rather than cooking with it.”
「オリーブオイルを長持ちさせるには、調理に使うよりも、ドレッシングやパスタにかけるなど、添え物として使うのが効果的です。」

Like many people using blended olive oils to help make their olive oil go further, La Delfa shares another nifty trick her Sicilian grandmother taught her:
オリーブオイルをより長持ちさせるため、ブレンドしたオリーブオイルを使う多くの人々と同じように、彼女もシチリア人の祖母から教わった気の利いたコツを教えてくれた：

“My nonna used to keep her olives in cheaper grades of oil like vegetable oil to get the flavour of the olives without having to buy expensive oils.”
「高価なオイルを買わずにオリーブの風味を出すため、私の祖母はオリーブを植物油のような安いグレードのオイルに漬けていました。」

For Boeri, quality olive oil is part of a culture worth fighting for.
ボエリにとっては、高品質のオリーブオイルは戦う価値のある文化の一部である。

“It has been three years in the making with droughts and severe temperatures,
「干ばつと厳しい気温の中で3年間を過ごしてきましたが

but we are a fifth-generation olive oil producer, and we will keep fighting the climate situation and produce excellent, high-quality olive oil like the one our family made in 1877.”
私たちは5代目のオリーブオイル生産者であり、気候状況と戦い続け、私たちの家族が1877年に作ったような優れた高品質のオリーブオイルを生産していきます。」

なるほど、普通の植物オイルにオリーブを漬けておく、これは良いアイディアだなと思いました。

最近はホームセンターにもオリーブの苗木が売っていて、育ててみたいと思うものの、微々たる数しか取れないであろう実をどうするか・・・と考えて諦めていたのです。

でもオイルに漬けるのならば、植木鉢栽培でも楽しめそうです。

オリーブオイルの価格はどうなるのか分かりませんが、良いアイディアが得られて個人的にはありがたい記事でした（笑）。
