In France, pet names are specific to the individual or their role in your life.
フランスでは、特別な呼び名はその人やその人の人生における役割に特有のものだ。
A man may refer to his female colleauges as mes chats (my cats).
男性は同僚の女性を「mes chats（私の猫）」と呼ぶことがある。
A close friend greeting a woman is likely to call her ma belle, or my beauty.
親しい女友達を迎える時は、彼女を「ma belle」（私の美しい人）と呼んだりもする。
An online search of women’s magazines produces lists of hundreds of pet names for mum, dad, the kids, a friend or a lover:
女性誌のオンライン検索では、ママやパパ、子供、友人や恋人の呼び名が何百も出てくる、
ma chéri; mon coeur (my heart); mon trésor (my treasure); ma perle (my pearl).
「ma chéri / mon coeur（私の愛しい人）」、「mon trésor（私の宝物）」、「ma perle（私の真珠）」等々。
The French don’t have to say it, either.
フランス人はそれを言う必要もない。
They are happy to communicate their feelings with hugs, cuddles and kisses wherever and whenever they feel the need to express love.
彼らは愛情表現の必要性を感じた時にはいつでもどこでも、ハグや抱擁、キスで気持ちを伝えたがるからだ。
There is no debate about public displays of affection in France, where PDAs are celebrated as a fortunate consequence of love.

パリの夏は、セーヌ川沿いにぴったりくっついて座ったカップルたちが、行き交うバトー・ムーシュに乗った観光客の声援に気づかないほど、情熱的なキスを交わすのだ。
フランス人にとって、特別な呼び名はその人への気持ちを示すものであり、愛情表現はいつでもどこでも率直に！ということみたいですね。
京都の夏は鴨川沿いでそういうことは、ないのかな？（笑）
