先日から「Why plastic doesn’t dry in the dishwasher -「食洗機でプラスチックが乾かせない理由」を読んでいます。

Zeolite granules are kept in a chamber on the dishwasher’s door.
ゼオライトの粒は、食洗機の扉にある庫内に保管されている。

granule「小粒、細粒、微粒」。

When the drying cycle starts, moist air is circulated inside the chamber and the zeolites adsorb the water and release heat.
乾燥サイクルが始まると、湿った空気がその庫内に循環し、ゼオライトが水分を吸着して熱を放出する。

The heat is sent back into the dishwasher’s interior to help cut drying time.
その熱を食洗機の内部に送り返し、乾燥時間の短縮をはかる。

During the next wash cycle, the zeolites are heated up by the dishwasher’s heating elements, expelling the water and readying them for the next drying cycle.
次の洗浄サイクル中に、ゼオライトは食洗機の発熱体によって加熱され、水分を排出し、次の乾燥サイクルに備えるのだ。

While the process of drying the zeolites does require energy,
ゼオライトを乾燥させる工程ではエネルギーを必要とするが

the heating element doesn’t need to be used for the entirety of the washing and drying cycle,
洗浄・乾燥の全工程で発熱体を使用する必要がないため

meaning that overall, zeolite-equipped dishwashers use something like 20% less energy than a normal dishwasher, its designers have claimed.
ゼオライト搭載の食洗機は通常の食器洗い機に比べて、約20％のエネルギー消費で済むと設計者は主張している。

But what if your particular dishwasher doesn’t have zeolites?
だが、もしあなたが使っている食洗機にゼオライトがなかったら？

What else can you do?
他にできることはあるのだろうか？

“You might have to give plastic containers an extra dry with a towel once when you unload the dishwasher, or leave them to air dry on a drying rack,”
「プラスチック容器は、食洗機から出したら一度タオルで拭くか、棚で自然乾燥させる必要がありそうです」

says Natalie Hitchens, the home and services editor of consumer guide Which?
と話すのは、消費者ガイド「Which?」の担当編集者ナタリー・ヒッチェンス氏で

“When loading the dishwasher be sure to place plastic items on the top rack to prevent them from warping in the heat.”
「食洗機に入れる際は、プラスチック製品が熱でゆがむのを防ぐため、必ず上のラックに置いてください」とのこと。

もしもゼオライト搭載機種でない場合は・・・まあ今までと変わらずひと手間かかると（笑）。

家庭用に関しては、それでもいいかなと個人的には思うんですが、業務用の場合はそうはいきませんよね。

ともかく食洗機メーカーを長年悩ませたこの大きな課題は、ゼオライトを組み込むことで解決したという話。

全く畑違いの分野で解決法が見つかるというのは、案外あらゆる事に通用しそうな気がします。
