But these sparkling highlights accounted for a small proportion of the ceremony’s three hours and forty minutes.
しかし3時間40分の式典の中で、こうしたきらびやかなハイライトが占める割合はほんの僅かだ。

For the rest of the time, it was a shambles:
それ以外の時間は惨憺たるものだった、

a dispiriting jumble of botched introductions, ill-timed advert breaks,
不手際だらけの紹介やタイミングの悪い宣伝のごちゃごちゃで気が滅入るし、

dispirit「気力をくじく、落胆させる」。

jumble「乱雑にする、ごちゃまぜにする」。

botch「ぶざまな継ぎはぎ、下手な仕事」。

insensitive music choices, creaking comedy, and uninspired production.
無神経な音楽の選択、ぎこちないコメディー、気の利かない演出等々。

Smith’s slap only added to the sense that the evening was out of control.
スミスのビンタは、この夜の支離滅裂さに拍車をかけた。

There was so much that just wasn’t right.
おかしなことがたくさんあったのだ。

The show opened with a musical number from Beyoncé, with a whole crowd of dancers and a live band in matching tennis-ball-coloured outfits.
ビヨンセのミュージカルナンバーで幕を開け、テニスボール色のお揃いの衣装を着たダンサーと生バンドが勢ぞろい。

But rather than being in the Dolby Theatre, the number was staged on a tennis court in Compton with no audience present,
だがこのナンバーはドルビー・シアターではなく、観客のいないコンプトンのテニスコートで上演されたため、

so it didn’t bring any energy or party atmosphere to proceedings.
エネルギーやパーティーの雰囲気は全く感じられなかった。

まあ難癖つけようと思えばいくらでも出来そうな・・・（笑）。

リアルタイムで見てないので何とも言えませんが、依然コロナ禍での開催でしょうから、多少のスケールダウンは仕方ない気もします。
