It’s not surprising.
これは驚くにはあたらない。

For a fashion brand eager to shift product, nothing replicates the luxurious textures of yesteryear as cheaply as synthetics.
商品転換に躍起になっているファッションブランドにとって、合成繊維ほど往年の豪華な質感を安価に再現できるものはないからだ。

But, as the invites start piling up, what’s a conscious fashionista to do?
しかし招待状が山積みになってきたら、意識の高いファッショニスタはどうすればいいのだろう？

“The very last thing? Buying something new,”
「最後の最後？ 新しいものを買うことです」

Buying something new,” says Aja Barber, author of Consumed, which drills down into our shopping habits through the lenses of colonialism, climate change and consumerism.
と言うのは、植民地主義、気候変動、消費主義という切り口から私たちの買い物習慣を掘り下げた「Consumed」の著者、アジャ・バーバー。

It’s a theme that now runs through most fashion activism:

when facing an industry that produces more than 100 billion items of clothing a year, and then chucks away about 90% of that into landfill or incineration, using what we already have is our most powerful riposte.
年間1,000億着以上の衣類を生産し、その約90％を埋め立てや焼却に回している産業と向き合うとき、既にあるものを使うことが最も強力な対抗策となる。

Last year, inspired by the 2022 report on consumption by the Hot or Cool Institute, former editor-in-chief of Harrods magazine Tiffanie Darke launched the Rule of 5, a campaign encouraging followers to buy just five new items of clothes a year.
昨年、Hot or Cool Instituteによる2022年の消費に関する報告書に触発され、ハロッズ誌の元編集長ティファニー・ダークは、フォロワーに年に5着だけ新しい服を買うことを奨励するキャンペーン「Rule of 5」を開始した。

“We tend to wear about 30 percent of our wardrobe so there are bound to be treasures in there,” she says.
「私たちはワードローブの30％くらいしか着ないことが多いので、その中に宝物があるはずです」と彼女。

“Then, get creative with them.”
「そして、それらを使ってクリエイティブになること。」

In the ethical fashion universe, styling – putting clothing together in imaginative ways – really is the new design.
エシカル・ファッションの世界ではスタイリング、つまり想像力豊かに服を組み合わせることこそが新しいデザインなのだ。

“I have a black leather mini dress which is no longer appropriate,” offers Darke.
「もうあまり着る気にならない黒革のミニドレスを持っています」とダークは提示する。

“But, worn with a white man’s shirt, some lacy black tights and a slick of red lipstick, it’s suddenly very okay.”
「でもこれに白いシャツとレースの黒タイツ、そして赤い口紅を塗れば、急にオシャレになるのです。」

たくさん服を持っているのに「着る服が無い」という気分になるのは、誰でも経験があることかと思います。

本当はそうした中にもお宝はあって、それを発掘し、自分にしっくりくる着こなし方を探す・・・確かにこれを出来れば良いんですけどね～。

あとはちゃんと昔の服が入るかどうかです（笑）。
