先日から「Why are bed bugs so difficult to deal with? -「なぜトコジラミ対策は難しい？」を読んでいます。

In any case, press reports that suggest that other cities in Europe and the US could have “caught” bed bugs from France are misleading.
いずれにせよ、ヨーロッパやアメリカの他の都市が、フランスから来たトコジラミを「捕獲」したと仄めかす報道は誤解を招く。

“Are bed bugs infestations suddenly erupting across France and London, or have they simply gone unreported?” says Booth.

A 2022 study found that the number of bed bug complaints in New York reduced substantially between 2014 and 2020, after the city introduced laws that required landlords to report infestations and to notify all residents in the building.
2022年の調査によると、ニューヨーク市では、家主にトコジラミの発生報告と、建物内の全居住者への通知を義務づける法律の導入後、2014年から2020年にかけてトコジラミの苦情件数が大幅に減少した。

Landlords are also required to treat infestations within 30 days.
また家主には30日以内に蔓延に対策を講じることが義務付けられている。

However even in this study, higher income boroughs (Manhattan and Brooklyn) saw steeper declines than the lower income boroughs of Queens and Staten Island.
しかしこの調査においても、高所得地区（マンハッタンとブルックリン）の方が、低所得地区（クイーンズとスタテン島）よりも減少幅が大きかった。

In many low-income areas, reports of infestations persisted.
低所得者層が多い地域では、蔓延の報告が絶えなかったのだ。

Similar patterns have been seen in other US cities, such as Chicago.
同じようなパターンは、シカゴなどアメリカの他の都市でも見られる。

まあ衛生状態が、やっぱりちょっと違っているんでしょうかね。

開運にも健康にもまずは掃除、何より掃除、という考え方がありますが、これはあながち間違いではないような気がします。

こんまりさんが全米でブームにもなりましたが、住環境をすっきりと綺麗に保つこと。

害虫の問題だけでなく、これはそこの住人の人生も左右するほどの力があるのかもしれません。
